William J. Werts, age 85, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on July 28, 2013. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William W. and Agnes Werts (nee Memnaugh).
William was a 1945 graduate of Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as an office supply salesman.
He was involved with Boy Scout Troop 375 for many years. He was an avid fisherman, having taught his children, grandchildren and neighborhood children how to fish. William was a devoted husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle.
He is survived by his children Joanne Werts, Francis Werts (Linda), Cynthia McGuire (Joseph), William J. Werts, Jr. (Marie) and Mary Russell (George), his 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, his sister Florence Hober and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Mary "Mickey" Werts (nee Mayer) and his sisters Theresa Bean and Doris Bewley.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Thursday, August 1, 2013 9:30-10:20 AM St. Bernadette Church, 1035 Turner Avenue, Drexel Hill followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
