Willowdean “Willow” Legg (née Foster) entered Heaven's gates to meet Jesus after a stubborn and brave battle with congestive heart failure on Jan. 2. She was 82.
Born in Powhatan, W. Va., and raised in Beckley, W. Va., Willow was one of 10 children. She had an early love of learning and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. As a young woman, she worked at the local telephone company. She married Robert "Bob" Legg, her husband of 60 years, in 1963. The two made homes in Beckley, Arlington. Va., Lewisburg. Pa., Camp Hill, Pa., Gahanna, Ohio, and eventually settled in West Chester, Pa. They lived there for 37 years in a quaint ranch home and spent many summer days by their pool and on their porch. She raised two children, a granddaughter, and had several dogs.
Willow was a devout Christian and made it her life's work to spread the gospel of Jesus. She loved hymns and volunteered often at church by teaching Sunday school classes, managing donations, and praying over the sick. She also loved playing golf, gardening, cooking, and sitting in the sunshine. She had a sharp moral compass and never hesitated to share her thoughts. She possessed a tireless energy in caring for her family, friends, and fellow congregants.
Willow is predeceased by five sisters; Naomi Cheek, Maybelle Beck, Brooksy Guilliams, Eula Poage, and Gaynelle Farris D’Arco; brothers Harold and Henry Foster; parents Dillard and Nellie Mae (née Dent) Foster.
She is survived by her husband Bob; children Steve (Dara) Legg of Winchester, Va. and Jen Hoover (Dave Kaufman) of Wilmington, Del.; granddaughter Amanda Hoover of New York City; sisters Rita Wendell and Betty Jo Fox, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at The Donohue Funeral Home at 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, Pa. 19382 on Monday, Jan. 8 at 10 a.m., with a service to follow at 11:30 a.m. She will be buried at Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery in a private ceremony with family.
